I am a photographer and videographer; working with screen based arts, as well as writing, printing, embroidery and hand made books and zines.
My work considers the ways we inhabit time, embracing a non-linear understanding of life experiences. Rather than pursuing predetermined projects, I maintain a constant practice of documentation across multiple spaces—domestic scenes, relationships with loved ones, repeat encounters with community and surroundings. These images accumulate like sediment, until life events reveal their connections.
When such moments arrive, I draw together photographs spanning years, discovering recurring themes and unexpected resonances. A life shift in one point may reach back through places and events in the past, and suddenly, images taken over the course of years, decades even, get strung together like words rearranged in sentences multiple times over.
The theme of childhood emerges repeatedly in my practice, not as a clear sequence of events -or even through photographs of children or childhood itself- but as an enduring presence that accompanies my own actions. I imagine adults to be shadowed by the ghost of their younger selves and I consider relationships with these children of the past- my father as the child I never knew, my parents or grandparents in their youth, my own childhood self walking alongside my son. This layered view of existence serves to present images as both document and portal, and as artefacts marked by the ghosts that accompany them.
Multiple types of grief exist in my ongoing practice; the knowledge and muscle memory of loss is familiar—extending beyond death to encompass the mourning of places and life phases. This includes departures from significant locations and transitions in life, such as the evolving stages of motherhood and my son's childhood. Grief exists not as a singular emotion but as a multifaceted presence. My present self is in constant communication with my future to say “these are the pasts you will have”.
All of these themes are evident in my ongoing work, for example, my project "There were too many steps" deals with separation from a home that is connected to the death of a parent. It is a process of going through motions of loss in a measured way, unfolding mourning with a controlled timeline. Being able to touch a surface, the skin of a place, is a futile attempt to make up for the ways that life is unexpected and aggressive.
In all of my work, there always exists an underlying notion of a violently changing reality which permanently lurks around the corner. As dooming as this may sound, this is actually a way of staying firmly rooted in the present and immersed in the things that exist now, an enhancement of the will to be alive.

2015-2016 Home
A Photo-book project and collaboration with the charity SHP (Single Homeless Project).
Over the course of a year I visited the homes of SHP’s service users and photographed the spaces within them. Technically speaking these homes belong to housing associations, but in spirit they belong to the people who live in them, who have each made what was a basic liveable space, into a unique home. All clients of SHP Westminster Floating Support struggle with enduring mental health problems, and many have been street homeless in the past as a result.
